Welcome to the personality section of Hiei-sama no Jinja. In
this section of the Jinja, I will attempt to describe Hiei-sama's personality. I'm not sure whether
or not I do it that well and please do not take this completely as fact because although much of
what I say is true, much of it is also opinion. Also, I'm afraid that my writing is filled with
a bit of redundance, so if anyone could write this better and more fluidly, I'd very much appreciate
it.
Hiei-sama, first of all, has an abundance of pride (some call it arrogance). Most of this
pride revolves around his fighting skill and the fact that he is a demon. He really enjoys
fighting and power. He thirsts for both social and physical power. With social power, he
would like nothing more than to be king. With physical, he wants nothing more than to be
the best fighter in the whole universe. Anyhow, with this air of pride about him, Hiei-sama
also has a rather large ego. This ego could be used to take advantage of him, but it is not
wise because he WILL find out shortly and make you pay dearly. Another precaution to take
to be safe is to be sure NEVER to hurt is ego in any way shape or form. That would be a
drastic mistake. In the event that this happens, help him out and stick up for him. You'll
have his respect. Another note is that his fighting spirit has also caused him to be a bit
lonely. As he was growing up, he was always alone (mostly because he was "The Forbidden Child")
and had to fight to defend himself. So when he got older and began working with Yusuke, he
still stayed in his little shell and didn't socialize much. Afterawhile, though, his human
friends began rubbing off on him so he became a little less of a lonesome fighter and kind
of likes humans a little more. Because of this, you know that when he says stuff like "baka
ningen," he doesn't REALLY mean it.

Now, I shall address Hiei's personality when he IS fighting. When Hiei fights, he does not
like to waste energy needlessly, but he will give each fight all that he has and pretty much
fight until death. He will not use his Kokuryuha right away though. That would be stupid
in his mind. The Kokuryuha takes up a lot of his "youki" or demon spirit energy (humans
have "reiki" demons have "youki"), so he will not use up all his energy on one attack. His
main strategy would be to wear the enemy down with his much smaller melee attacks unless it
is absolutely necessary to use the Kokuryuha against them. A good example of this would be
the Hiei from the Yu Yu Hakusho SNES video games. In the first and third video games, as
played by the computer, Hiei will not use his dragon until he has lost about half his health.
I can tell that the programmers took care to preserve his fighting personality when creating
the game.
Despite this rough, arrogant, and somewhat merciless side, Hiei-sama also has a very nice
and caring side. His kindness and caring is mostly reflected toward his sister although
he is generally "nice" to his friends. He always treats Yukina with kindness and would
probably do anything for his little sister; and even though he cannot tell her their true
relationship, he continues to protect her. Yukina isn't slow or anything either, so it
seems that she may already know, but is waiting for Hiei-sama to speak up. Back to addressing
his friends. Hiei treats Yusuke with the utmost respect because he beat him and is more
powerful. He also seems to treat Mukuro in a much similar way. Hiei and Kuwabara have
more of a rivalry friendship, but they are friends, in a way. As a result of this rivalry
relationship, Hiei very much dislikes the fact that Kuwabara is in love with Yukina.
Hiei's friendship with Kurama is probably the most close relationship and therefore many
people think that they could be more than that. (Personally, I think that their closeness
was just exploited in that fashion so that more money could be obtained through the series).
Now, when you put all this evidence together, one can truly tell that if you treat Hiei
kindly, he will not treat you badly or disappoint you.
